Development & Well-being
Hey there!
I am Dr. Katie Oien, and I am an occupational therapist in Newport Beach, CA who serves infants and young childen. I have both a master's and doctoral degree in occupational therapy, hold a Board Certification in Pediatrics, and have advanced training in infant feeding and oral skills, motor skills development, torticollis and plagiocephaly, and sleep and attachment.
I use a holistic approach focusing on infant bodywork and traditional methods of therapy to help your child eat, grow, and learn! I appreciate the holistic nature of this profession and have become an expert in the various areas of infant and child development that matter most.
I serves families in Orange County, CA.
Areas of Specialty
Infant Feeding
I support infant feeding skills in the areas of breastfeeding, bottle feeding, transitioning to solids, oral motor development, and tethered oral tissues (TOT's).
Torticollis and Plagiocephaly
Using methods such as Craniosacral Fascial Therapy (CFT) and Total Motion Release (TMR), as well as traditional therapeutic methods, I support infants in tension release, impacting areas such as feeding and airway, body and muscle tightness, torticollis, plagiocephaly, and positional or movement asymmetry.
Motor Skill Development
I support infants and children to develop motor skills such as rolling, sitting, crawling, walking, reaching and grasping, etc. all which are precursor skills for more mature motor development and learning.
Attachment and Infant-led Sleep
A child with disrupted sleep can be challenging for the whole family. As a baby-led sleep consultant, I educate parents on the natural patterns of infant sleep and support parents in finding solutions for their child's sleep with a focus on responsive parenting and infant-parent relationships. I support children and their families as a baby-led sleep consultant without sleep training.
